Kappa Vattal Varuthathu / Tapioca Chips




Kappa Vattal Varuthathu is a kerala naadan tea time snake.It can be made easily at home.

INGREDIENTS:
  • Kappa(Tapioca) -1 big
  • Water- required for cooking
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil for frying

PREPARATION METHOD:
  • Peel the Kappa / Tapioca and cut it into pieces.
  • Boil the Kappa / Tapioca with Salt and Water.
  • Drain the water when it becomes soft.
  • Slice the cooked Kappa / Tapioca and spread it in a large plate or a flat surface.
  • Dry it in sunlight for 2 hours. 
  • (if you want to store it for longer then you may have to dry it completely.)
  • Heat Oil in a Pan.
  • Put the dry slices into it. 
  • Fry until it turns golden colour and crisp.
Recommended Combination: Serve with Tea or Coffee

Kappa Puzhukku


Kappa is an inexpensive and an excellent source of dietary fiber and carbohydrates . Kappa and Fish curry is one of the most popular dishes of Kerala.

INGREDIENTS:
  • Kappa(Tapioca) -1Kg or 2lb
  • Turmeric Powder - ¼ tsp
  • Cumin seed- ¼ tsp
  • Chilly Powder - ½ tsp or green chilly -2 nos
  • Garlic - 2 nos
  • Grated coconut - 1 cup
  • Coconut Oil- 2 tsp
  • Water- required for cooking
  • Salt to taste
  • Curry leaves

PREPARATION METHOD:
  • Peal the kappa and slice into small pieces.
  • Boil the kappa with salt, turmeric and water.
  • Drain the water when it becomes soft.
  • Crush together grated coconut, garlic, cumin seed and chilly.
  • Add the crushed couconut mix in cooked kappa and mix well.
  • Mash the kappa with a spoon.
  • Add the coconut oil and curry leaves and mix well.
Recommended Combination: Serve hot with Fish Curry or curd or pickle.

Kappa Puzhungiyathu


Kappa Puzhngiyathu is a common dish in kerala.
Kappa sliced into big pieces and boiled in water.It is served with chutney or Fish Curry.

INGREDIENTS:
  • Kappa(Tapioca) -1Kg or 2lb
  • Water- required for cooking
  • Salt to taste

PREPARATION METHOD:
  • Peal the Kappa and cut it into pieces.
  • Boil the Kappa with Salt and Water.
  • Drain the water when it becomes soft.
Recommended Combination: Serve hot with Fish Curry / Mulaku Chammanthi / Coconut Chutney.
